Accelerated orthodontics utilizes modern orthodontic tools to accelerate the tooth movement process during orthodontic treatment. The average orthodontic treatment lasts between 18 to 24 months. There are many factors that can affect how long a person will wear braces such as age, type of malocclusion, type of treatment and even good oral hygiene. The most common question patients ask when they get braces is “How long do I have to wear them?”
Dr. Glass uses the Propel Accelerated Orthodontics System to speed up your time in orthodontics. While not everyone is a candidate for accelerated treatment, Dr. Glass will work with you to determine if Propel is the best option for you.
How Does Propel work?
Propel® is a clinically proven safe procedure that works by stimulating the bone around your teeth, helping the teeth to move faster into their proper alignment. Propel accelerated orthodontics is usually done in our office. It does not require any invasive procedures and there is no recovery time. Propel® technology is used in conjunction with braces or Invisalign® and can shorten treatment duration up to 50%.
- First, your orthodontist will take x-rays to determine the size of the gaps that are existing between your teeth. These areas are where the micro-osteoperforations will be performed.
- Our findings will be double-checked by physically feeling for the bone beneath your gums.
- To make sure that you don’t feel any discomfort during the procedure, we’ll administer a local anesthetic.
- Your orthodontist will use Propel to make a tiny hole through your gum and into the underlying bone. For each tooth that’s going to be moved during treatment, there will be one-to-three holes made on either side of the tooth.
