How to Get the Most from Invisalign: Tips from Glass Orthodontics

Invisalign is a popular choice for teens and adults who want to straighten their teeth without brackets or wires. While clear aligners are discreet and convenient, they still require commitment to get the best results. At Glass Orthodontics, we want to help you make the most of your Invisalign experience – so you can enjoy a confident, healthy smile on schedule. Here are some of our tips to keep your treatment on track:

Wear Your Aligners as Directed

It may be tempting to pop them out for long lunches or skip a day now and then, but consistency is key. Aligners should be worn 20–22 hours per day, every single day. The more consistently you wear them, the faster and more predictably your teeth will move.

Only Take Them Out to Eat and Drink (Water is Okay!)

Clear aligners are not made to withstand chewing. Always remove them before meals and snacks, and before drinking anything besides plain water. Eating or drinking with your aligners in can cause staining, warping, or even damage that could set your treatment back.

Keep Your Aligners and Teeth Clean

Clean aligners = healthy smile. Always brush your teeth after eating and before putting your aligners back in. If you’re not near a toothbrush, rinse your mouth and aligners with water and brush as soon as possible. We also recommend:

  • Gently brushing your aligners with a soft toothbrush and clear, unscented liquid soap
  • Soaking them regularly in Invisalign cleaning crystals or denture cleaner to prevent odor and buildup

Stay on Schedule with Aligner Changes

Each set of trays is designed to move your teeth little by little. Switching to your next set too early – or too late – can affect your progress. Stick to the schedule your orthodontist provides, and always check in if something doesn’t feel right.

Keep Your Aligners Safe

Always store your trays in their designated case when you’re not wearing them. Avoid wrapping them in napkins (they often end up in the trash!) or leaving them in hot cars, where they can warp from heat.
